Well, this does further support the theory and reality that we are moving into an era when 'knowledge' is the new capital.

Omaha as pointed out in the article, and Des Moines, MSP, Sioux Falls, Saint Louis, KC, etc. are all going to be the bright spots in the midwest with high education levels and good quality of life.

I know people who also have a big problem with civilization going this direction. Take that discussion where you will but overall seems to be the path we are on.

Husker, only you could attempt to connect dots between the article and "occupy hippies."

I see different dots. :D Cities like San Francisco, Boston, New York are getting richer and the brain gain exactly because they do attract hippies. Most college graduates make the decision of where they want to live first, then look for a job. Those hippies want exciting, interesting, and diverse communities.

This is exactly why our region is doing so well despite the rural decline in our states. The rural decline problems will continue to become less impacting as the rural populations continue to dwindel and the cities get bigger and grow faster.

Right now the GP states are behind some of the Sun belt and West for growth, but we are ahead of the rest of the midwest and northeast. I think this will become more prevalant as this rural/urban trend continues, our very generous corporate tax breaks continue and our regional pull for educated individuals.

The future is bright for this part of the country.
