Scott Weiland needs to rejoin Velvet Revolver and leave STP in the past. I saw STP in Seattle back in the mid 90's in the shadow of the Space Needle at Seattle Memorial Stadium and they were very mediocre. I saw Velvet Revolver a couple years ago and they were much better but with Slash and Matt Sorum behind you, it's hard to be horrible. Good get for Sioux City, though.

He just played Sioux City last week. I wasn't able to find any attendance figures but I would guess that it drew 6000 or so based on previous country events in SC.

Attendance for Brad in SC was 8000, which was less than Rascal Flatts pulled in a few weeks later (about 9K). There were a few seats in the upper corners left for RF. I had free tickets so I went, not my music at all but what the hell, free is free.

I don't know what STP will do but it won't be as good as the Chevelle/Puddle of Mudd show a few weeks back. This week is another back to back (Rascal played the night after the Chevelle show) with STP one night and the Jason Aldean country tour the next night with hockey on both ends. Larry the Cable Guy was there the other night and it was pretty thoroughly attended but the back 1/3rd of the arena was curtained.

I'm curious to see what the survey the Tyson did for future shows brings forth. People were asked what 5 shows they'd most want to see and what range they'd pay for tickets. Most artists on the list were either country or hard rock and at least half the list wouldn't play the Tyson for the reason its too big or too small for their show, so I'm not sure how accurate the survey will be when the reality of securing shows is done.

Seeing all kinds of noise on FaceBook that the Black Eyed Peas will be at Liar's Club for a post-concert party tomorrow p.m. Not my scene, but seems like a pretty big deal.

I'm definitely kicking myself for not getting tickets to the Black Eyed Peas concert and jealous of those that did pony up the money. This concert created a buzz amongst the younger people in DSM that I haven't seen with Wells Fargo Arena yet. I can't recall seeing as many tour buses and as many trucks holding concert/stage equipment parked outside the arena for any other concert so far.

I am seeing numbers indicating that attendance hit around the 14,000 mark. Sounds great!

The concert was awesome! The stage set and light show was to die for! If Des Moines continues to attract sell out such large productions, that would bring a lot of more money to the local economy.

Then we have this weekend with two legends of rock/pop back-to-back. Elton John and AC/DC. AC/DC is sold out and I think Elton sold a lot of seats too. I think we may be on the map now.

According to the Register...Elton John did sell out.

Another concert has been added to the lineup at Wells Fargo Arena:

Carrie Underwood on December 4th, 2010.

Amazing, among all this other excitement and then boom........ Carrie Underwood added to the lineup.

It seems that those in charge finally realized it was time to put DSM and WF on the map. The last couple years have been huge and it only seems to be getting better.

I agree. I'm glad hockey isn't there to pay the bills. It makes Global Spectrum work harder to pull in concerts (to turn a profit)!

Yes, I think that some of the minor league hockey mentality actually created a crutch/fallback to rely on rather than working for good concerts and other events.

Fact is, that might have been what seemed to hold things back a bit the first couple years. We had that relentless push for AAA and AA type activity. I just don't think you can cram that much minor league sports into one town and expect sales to be healthy.

With DSM's growth and health, the promoters are seeing huge opportunity for good entertainment sells like this and it's working.

I'd prefer both. We've got minor league hockey (such as it is) at the iWireless Center, but we still get Carrie Underwood. I don't think having a guaranteed 40 or whatever hockey nights should stop arena management from trying to book the best acts they can get.

I agree. The Bucs were all we had for so long that I don't think many see it as too big of a deal to fall back on them once again, but I do miss the other option for better hockey even if I'm not a diehard fan. It sounds like it's a volatile time for minor league hockey right now, so maybe it's best that we sit back and wait for a few things pan out. Perhaps DSM can try their hand again in the AHL in the coming years.

I prefer both as well. Let's not forget what 40 hockey dates do for local restaurants and bars in area.

It's really tough to pinpoint the loss of hockey contributing to the sudden (past two year's) gain in concerts. Sure, it's easy to say that more dates are now open, but perhaps there's some other contributing factors to the recent success.

Anyone else dissapointed by the way the concert season has shaped up for WFA arena this year? We get Bon Jovi's semi-annual appearance and a bunch of (top notch) country acts. The Qwest Center in Omaha and even the iWireless Center in Moline is cleaning Wells Fargo Arena's clock this year.

Last year was such a great year for concert announcements that WFA actually had higher annual tickets sales than the Qwest Center for the first time in both arena's consecutive existence.

Add Michael Buble and Josh Groban to the concert lineup this year. Still not even close to where the IEC was at this time last year..

There aren't many big name rock acts touring this year...and if any are, they're keeping it a secret for now. Just look at the lineup for the Xcel Energy Center in STP it's all country for much of the year. Sprint in KC is the oldtimers club and country. Country makes money and is little risk, their fans seem to be pretty loyal, no matter what the ticket prices. Tim McGraw has sold out over half the Tyson Center in Sioux City in a day and tickets with Ticketmaster & facility fees/tax are over $80 apiece.

Blink 182/My Chemical Romance slated for 9/8/11. Seems an odd fit for a large arena show.

I'll second that. I sort of get the ZZ Top lineup but yet it makes no sense at the same time. I think my brain would be totally scrambles after that show.
