With the new money from apporpriations and the IDED, an estimated 60% of the buildings are now demolished. The City of Waterloo is now debating whether to save some of the newer buildings that were constructed in the last few expansions of the plant. The city's brownfield redevelopment site shows some good pictures of the progress at

Originally the talk was to move all the recreational facilities from Gates park to the former plant and then construct homes along the golf course in their place. That sounds like a good way to get some new homes built in an area of Waterloo that hasn't seen any residential construction for awhile.
Here is to the future success of Waterloo.
