West Des Moines: Galleria at Jordan Creek

Postby DMRyan on Sun Oct 02, 2005 9:40 pm

Finally found some more information about the Galleria at Jordan Creek.

This development will include 800,000 sq. ft. of retail space, with many outlots for retail and restaurants.

Listed on a website for Buyer's Realty, the firm that will be responsible for finding tenants, are several maps and renderings. It was also mentioned that it is adjacent to the Wells Fargo Home Mortgage Campus, which will eventually house 12,000 employees! That's huge.

Based upon that map of the JC Overlay district, I think we found where our Glennan developement is going. As I suspected it looks like it will fill the property west of West Glen to 60th.

Here's a rendering of what the Galleria Super Wal-Mart will look like.

That looks different than the original proposal. Wasn't this suppose to be some unique or "concept" style wal mart?

Better than most:

But argueably not as good as others:

I think they should've been required to fill in that large cream colored patch in the center of the Wal-Mart with cultured stone or more faux brick.

Galleria @ Jordan Creek Project Page has been updated. It shows pictures of Fuddruckers, the beginnings of Red Robin, the Bank, and the Super Wal*Mart. Look for updated pictures of the Wells Fargo Campus and Jordan Creek Crossing tomorrow! :)

Here is a peek...look at the brick work on the backside of the Supercenter. If this is any indication, I think it'll look alright. I'm the last person to want a Wal*Mart here...but it's going to be looking pretty good.

I don't know if I really like that *pretty* Wal Mart deisgn. Wal-Mart's *good looking* stores seem to just be their typical big box w/ a few different materials and an occassion surface that sticks out. It is terrible design. Smashing random surfaces together is not going to make for a good looking store. Hell a solid, nice, natural brick wall would be more attractive on the rear than all the fakeness. IMO the *architects* who design Wal-Marts do not live up to the responsibility of an environmental designer.

And for Wal-Marts *NEW* *CONCEPT* designs maybe they should actually try something new! perhaps toying with their layout, not just dressing the outsides. With a big box as massive as Wal-Mart symmetry is also probably not the best way to go...

I need to go take some pics of a two level Wal-Mart SuperCenter going up here, with UNDERGROUND parking even! Doesn't look ANYTHING like a Wal-Mart, it's a very nice new urban format. There's another one going up by me within a few miles that will look like friggin' Tara from "Gone With The Wind". Three story white verandas included!

kinda neat. Those site plans and 3D walk thru were a little bit confusing. So is the walmart completely underground??

Yes, I think it is, except for a few entrances on "ground" level on the shopping/walking plaza that is basically Wal-Mart's roof.

I love it when cities become large enough that really dense multi level developements like this one become practical. When it becomes cheaper to build up than it is to build out, that's when you know you've become a major metropolis.

Even Wal-Mart couldn't afford 15 acres near downtown Atlanta for a traditional store, they had to conform or be left out.

That's a nice looking development down there Thrash. Looks very European in design and will resemble The CC Plaza in certain ways.

This bank is top notch, and I could only hope will set the standard for other outparcels in this development. This would probably be a run-of-the-mill building in a quick growing Florida city, but because the design is so unique here, it really stands out.

For anyone who is following the Galleria....A Fantastic Sam's has been added along with an Iowa Health Clinic. There are another 3 "sale pending" lots along with a "lease pending" that should be announced soon.

One thing I've noticed that's missing from that area is a fast food drive thru. The closest ones I can think of are the two McDonalds stores....one over by the I35 intersection and the other over by the Marriott off I80. Also, there're the Culvers, Arbys, Taco Johns and Burger King stores up by the Marriott.

It'd be cool if we could get a chain in there that's new to Iowa...Whataburger, Krystal, White Castle or Portillo's/Brown's Chicken. Unfortunately, looking at any of these companies' web sites, none of them appear to be expanding up here quite yet.

One of the newer chains to Des Moines might do well there, though...Chik Fil A or Popeyes.

Portillo's would be my dream come true. Italian Beef is the one thing I miss most about Chicago. Portillo's isn't real high on my list when I go to Chicago, since there's so many other places with better beef sandwiches....but I'd definitely welcome any place to DSM that serves authentic Chicago Italian Beef sandwiches.

A Steak 'N Shake would be a nice addition too....and, if we're really going to dream the impossible dream......In 'N Out Burger.

Thanks! I'm also hoping for a California Pizza Kitchen. Adding Chick Fil-A, Popeye's and Fuddrucker's to the Des Moines area has been a godsend to me....it's about doubled the fast-food places in Des Moines I'd consider eating at.

We've got a lot of good restaurants in DSM area, but until very recently, fast-food options were severely lacking.

I'm not sure how California Pizza Kitchen is doing as a company, or why they made the decision to pull out of Jordan Creek Mall last year. If the company is in expansion mode, I would be willing to bet that the host of new developments near the mall (notably West Glen or Ponderosa) will end up nabbing CPK as a tenant someday in the future.

I'm sure the fast food restaurants will be on the way to the Galleria project. Look at the updated site plan that kissjrj provided a link to. Plenty of outparcels for restaurants like this.

Totally agree. We need a good authentic Vienna beef hot dog/gyro/Italian beef place in the metro. I miss that from my days back in the Chicago area. YUM!

I've had their stuff. It's not bad, but it's not quite the real thing either. It's definitely closer to authentic than it was under the previous owners in the previous locations (near Drake, out in WDM, and on Grand & Fleur).

I was just at Portillos on Friday. I told them (I know the staff) that I'm still waiting for my Portillo's in Des Moines. It probably won't be coming anytime soon though, they are focusing on California for future growth. I would love for it to come here.

LOL...I used to work 2 blocks from the location on Clark/Ontario in River North...and I ate lunch there almost EVERY day for 2 years. They have such a diversified menu (especially with Barnellis)...great staff...and FREE refills on Iced Tea! Everytime I get back over there, I make sure I eat there. It's wierd how the same staff is STILL there after 3 years. They are awesome! :)

About the Highland Park restaurant-I thought it was pretty good. I make an effort to stop there when I'm up in that neighborhood (which isn't very often).
