Grimes Development Thread

Postby Cyclonefan on Tue Aug 15, 2006 11:31 am

I just heard news from a Grimes City Councilman and WHO TV that the new Northwest Des Moines YMCA will be built in Grimes.

It will be at the south east corner of HWY's. 44 and 141 and will be similar to the Walnut Creek YMCA. But I havent heard much more.

Here's a link to WHO...

New Grimes Elementary

Postby Cyclonefan on Tue Aug 15, 2006 12:10 pm

Grimes voters just approved a $7.5 million elementary school for just Grimes kids. As you may know Grimes is part of Dallas Center-Grimes with the city of Dallas Center, a small country town 9 miles west of Grimes.

I wish that Grimes would split up with Dallas Center and become it's own school, but that's my opinion. All the young Grimes kids will stay in Grimes now instead of some going to the Dallas Center Elementary. The rest are already in the old Grimes Elementary, which is the oldest school in the district (it is only 14 years old). But the school will be huge. Not much more was released exept for that will be built on near the fastest growing area, the north side of Grimes .

New Grimes Elementary

The cities will not split schools in the near future. Maybe a couple of decades down the road. The high school might be in Grimes city limits but they purposely built it in Dallas County after a lengthy bond issue debate.

Urbandale, Johnston & Grimes Development News (NW Metro)

Postby Cyclonefan on Tue Aug 15, 2006 3:13 pm

I just saw in the newspaper that Grimes has the cheapest homes in the metro and are attracting many young families because of it and the great schools. They have homes as much as a third cheaper than anywhere else in the metro!

They are also now starting to build some Triton Homes in Grimes at the village at North Pointe. Triton homes are becomeing quite popular apperatly, they are poping up all around DM and Omaha. I like the looks of them. They are a nice touch to any nice neighborhood.

Here is a link to Triton Homes

I didn't say they were, I just said I wish they were. Grimes is getting close to being in Dallas County though. They keep saying they're going to annex the high school but i don't know if they have or not.

DC-G higgh school additions

Postby Cyclonefan on Tue Aug 15, 2006 3:25 pm

The new auditorium and new Football field was just finished at the DC-G high school in Grimes.

The new stadium was much needed because the old one in dallas center was very small and farther away for most of the people that go to DC-G. The new one holds about 3,000 people. The visitor side is as big as the old stadium's home side.

The new Auditorium is way to small for the school. They were very stupid when they built it. It only holds 300 or so, the high school is about that size and in 5 years it will be about twice that size. A poll just said about 3/4 of the preschool students (probably about 150) were the oldest in their family! That a lot of growth right there.

Anyway, I hope they both work out.

....and the downside?

You have to actually be willing to live in Grimes.

(sorry....just a joke....kinda) :D

true value

Postby Cyclonefan on Tue Aug 15, 2006 3:57 pm

There is a new True Value in Grimes now! It is in the old Mr. Bills and market and more by the water towers and fire station. It looks very nice.
Are the ones on 63rd and Grand and in grimes the only ones?

I don't doubt your enthusiasm for Grimes, Cyclone Fan.

I guess my point is has to do with the fact that since Grimes is located far enough away (and without a lot of the amenities that other cities in the metro have), I would expect homes to be cheaper. I'm sure you wouldn't have to travel much further away to find homes 40 - 50% cheaper than what you'd find closer to the population center of DSM.

It about location and other offerings so it doesn't surprise me homes would be 30% cheaper in Grimes. In fact I would go so far as to say homes should be 30% cheaper...

Grimes is about the only area around the DSM metro that I have virtually no knowledge of. What's your "thing?"

The new elementary will be located at the corner of James St. and NW 92nd Ave. At 60,000 sq ft., this is actually a fairly small elementary school...

they are starting to work on new bike trails in grimes. they building and repairing existing much needes bike trails all around the north side of Grimes.it'll go from the methodist church around all of grimes all the creek to the 1 of the new Kum and Go's on the otherside and up 44 till the McDonald's.

It is quite a project and they are also widening all the bridges more than 10 feet so emergency vehicles can get by. I cant find a picture on the internet but there was a picture in the grimes newletter(They got rid of the Grimes Today newspaper for some stupid reason).

You know, I've never given this much thought to Grimes before. There's more there than I first thought. Is that Corn Patch restaurant still open? Isn't Grimes the place with the hot and cold water towers?

I'm in the same boat. I've lived here for 2 years and made it a point to get to know the whole area, but Grimes has been all but neglected. I think I've been there 2-3 times and maybe filled up on gas there once. Other than that, no clue.

High School

Postby Cyclonefan on Sun Aug 20, 2006 5:48 pm

The all new Dallas Center-Grimes High School football stadium will open soon for the first Mustang home game, September 1, against Creston. The stadium has 2,200 home seats and 900 visitor seats. The track around it was accidently ordered as olympic terf, so i think i heard it is one of the best in the state. but i don't know for sure. So GOOD LUCK MUSTANGS on your first game and the rest of the season!!

I already have the Walnut Creek YMCA, so this isn't so big to me at least. A big plus for Grimes though.
