Rock Island: Jackson Square

Postby bettman on Thu Aug 11, 2011 5:13 pm

This project has been under the local radar because of other bigger projects like The Blackhawk, Forrest Block, Kone, and Moline's Enterprise lofts. It is worthy of its own thread, however.

Jackson Square is located in the former Illinois Oil Company warehouse building just down from the Rock Island Arsenal. This location has been an eyesore for years and is finally being turned into loft apartments.

First Army's headquarters were recently relocated from the Atlanta area to Rock Island. Many of these units are expected to be occupied by those individuals transferring to the Quad Cities since it's essentially walking distance from the Arsenal. It's also adjacent to the Quad City Botanical Center, which always seemed to suffer aesthetically being so close to the Illinois Oil Company property. Once these lofts are complete, both properties will benefit from being near the other.

Here are some recent pictures of the progress:

Interesting Art Deco building. Is that one story building with the white decorative pylons on the back new? The front of the building is gorgeous, the one story addition on the back looks like a smasll casino entrance.
