Elsie Mason Manor Renovation

Postby DMRyan on Thu May 31, 2012 10:24 pm

One of the plainest looking towers built since 1980 is in line for an overhaul. This tower received tax credits and will be renovated and retain 150 housing units. I'm not sure if the exterior will recieve much of an overhaul, but I've heard the plans entail some major first floor work that can hopefully modernize the building from the street. Hard to believe beauties like this were still getting built in the mid-1980's

Don't you love buildings like this that were orginally built under the (gold mine for the developer) housing tax credit program, and now come back in just a very few years wanting even more tax credits to remodel?

They really didn't maintain a capital/depreciation fund to cover this anticipated expense over the years?

Does it ever end? Ever?

Isn't this for lower income/income restricted residents? Maybe no funds could be set aside? I have no idea, but legit question.

There must have been something in the master plan to make this block as ugly and a dead zone as much as possible. East of Elsie Mason Manor is that gawd awful parking ramp stretching from 3rd St, and then it hangs over 4th Street, and then it butts up to Elsie. So, from 3rd St to 5th ave is one massive piece of nothing but concrete.

Hopefully, those residents are living in a bed bug free zone.
