Oakridge Housing Development

Postby DMRyan on Tue May 15, 2012 5:46 pm

I'm posting this one because it will be quite visible from the freeway. This is a proposal for senior apartments to be built on the Homes of Oakridge Campus at I-235 and Keo Way. The Keo Way exit definitely needs some new life and revitalization.

I'm pretty mixed on the design. I like the multi-colored panels, but the rest of the building just doesn't seem to fit together right. I've heard that the red design elements have been dropped and the light colored brick has been changed to a red brick...suttle design tweaks that should help out a little bit.

There will be about 40 apartments in the building.

Am I the only one that thinks the purple color of the Homes of Oakridge buildings that face I235 is horrendous?

I personally like the design compared to what It could have looked like. Its a nice change in a market that is saturated with spec housing

I think he's talking about the existing buildings that were renovated over the past few years.

Yes, sorry. I probably should have posted that on another thread. The new building looks nice. Much better than the old ones.

This looks like it will have underground parking.

Due to the terrain this sits on, this thing is really going to stick out when you see it from the north (I-235). The foundation and first floor parking garage is poured now, and it already seems like it has a massive presence being on top of a hill. It will definitely seem taller than it really is, almost becoming part of the skyline.

In the Principal Financial Group campus thread, it was mentioned that money could be coming to help dress up Keo Way a little bit. What are some good ideas that should be incorporated? What redevelopment prospects does this corridor have?

I wonder if IHS has any plans to chip in and make this corridor look better. They have just as much of a stake in this corridor as Principal.

This is a tough project to get a photo of unless you drive right into the Homes of Oakridge (I made it out unscathed) or stop to take a shot from the freeway...
