6 year reunion

Postby ABQturkey on Thu Sep 02, 2010 5:32 pm

I used to lurk the pages of this website several years ago after I graduated from ISU (go Cyclones!) and I hadn't been back to Des Moines and Ames since 2004. I just want to say holy hell downtown looks fantastic! From Ingersoll to the library and park, Court Ave to the Arena, the waterfront and the exploding east village. I think I read that $3 Billion has been spent in just over a decade and it definitely shows. Don't tell anyone but I would probably vote for downtown DSM as the best midsize downtown in the country.

Did you recently return? Downtown has had a dramatic face lift over the past six years!

I was just visiting for a couple of days. I also went up to the twin cities for a friend's wedding. And OMG yes, dramatic is an understatement. I was very impressed. The East Village was like a while new place from what I remember as was the area around the library. Court Ave has a pulse now, it's incredible! I have a few aerials from the flight I'll post here when I get them off my camera.

Unfortunately the clouds were a bit much for my aging point and shoot. I also wrote up a brief summary in my blog for Albuquerque readers if anyone is interested. Respectful comments are also always welcome. Again, great looking city! Can't wait to visit again :D
Cheers
