- The John and Mary Pappajohn family has donated their personal sculpture collection to be placed in the park. A donation of art worth $40 million that began being installated in May 2009, with room for additional pieces of sculpture.
- Construction of a 5-block long central green space that is intended to cleanup and entice redevelopment of the western portion of downtown. The original landscaped western portion of the park (west of the Arlington-Hallet Apartments) was ripped up in Summer of 2008 to make way for the Pappajohn Sculpture Park.
- The park includes a new streetscape, landscaping, trails, large "activity meadows" and an interactive water feature
- The new downtown library, Higher Education Learning Center and housing are components that are within the central green space
