The 17,000 seat Wells Fargo Arena held its official ribbon cutting and community open house to the general public on July 12, 2005. Wells Fargo Arena is a part of the $217 Million Iowa Events Center, which also includes the Hy-Vee Hall and Veterans Memorial Auditorium.
Wells Fargo Arena includes the following features and specs:
- Wells Fargo Arena provides seating for 16,980 for center stage concerts, 16,285 for end-stage concerts, 16,110 for basketball, and 15,181 for hockey
- Wells Fargo Arena includes 36 corporate suites, 20 loge boxes, and 600 club seats
- Wells Fargo Arena includes an 180 seat restaurant overlooking the downtown skyline and center court
- Wells Fargo Arena will be home to the AHL Iowa Stars (now the Iowa Chops)
- Wells Fargo Arena's first official event was Tony Hawk's Boom Boom Huck Jam on July 14, 2005
- The arena portion of the Iowa Events Center cost $99 million
