The Hubbell family built the Equitable Building in 1924 to house their Equitable of Iowa Insurance Company. At 319 feet tall, the 19-story structure remained Iowa's tallest commercial building until 1973 when the 25-story Financial Center was completed. In 2005, developer Bob Knapp purchased the building and began converting the 11th-19th floors into luxury condominiums.
