Cumming, Iowa, is a very small Warren County town that has it now included as a contigious suburb of the Des Moines metro area. The village consists of a population of only 213 people, and is the smallest of the Des Moines-area incorporated suburbs. Cumming is situated in relative close proximity to Norwalk, and to the attractions of Madison County. Not much information could be found on the history of the city, but it's likely the town sprung to life as a result of a railroad connecting Des Moines with the community of Martensdale to the south. The same railbed is now the home of the popular Great Western Recreational Trail, which brings some nice bicycle traffic into the community. There is no large industry or businesses to speak of in Cumming, but it's claim to fame may be that it is the home of Iowa Senator Tom Harkin, and the community's name sake has been publicized with the now famous "I love Cumming" t-shirts sold at the local pub and on the internet. While Cumming is small, there are signs of urban growth spreading to the community, with several new housing subdivisions springing up within city limits.
