- Featuring a 1.2 mile recreational trail loop connecting the east
and west sides of downtown via two pedestrian bridges. Trails will
connect the Court Avenue District, CBD, East Village, Botanical Center,
Iowa Events Center and Gray's Lake with other metro area recreational
trails
- A renovated pedestrian bridge to include a river overlook
- A new pedestrian bridge to be constructed using the arched
"basket handle" design
- A landscaped promenade along the street level connecting the
riverfront amphitheater and several plazas that will feature artwork
- An outdoor ice skating rink and summertime fountain plaza
- Several street level plazas that will feature an interactive
playground, basketball courts, and other amenities
- A series of civic gardens with sculptures will be installed near
Des Moines City Hall
- Will be adjacent to the new Robert D. Ray Asian Gardens and
Cultural Center
- Phase I to be complete by 2008, future phases may include an
extreme sports park, white water rafting course and trails/promenade
expansion
- Meredith Publishing Company has kicked in $2 million dollars to
fund the "Meredith Trail", a 12-foot wide pathway connecting Gray's Lake
with the MLK Trail head, aesthetic improvements to two future riverwalk
bridges and benches, light poles and other signage along the trail from
Gray's Lake to the Principal Riverwalk
