Iowa City Neighborhoods Photo Page

Iowa City has an abundance of beautiful, historic and healthy neighborhoods close to downtown and the University of Iowa.  Perhaps the most notable is a historic extension of downtown known as the Northside Marketplace.  This was the original downtown of Iowa City and is still a popular place for small business to thrive.  Many beautiful churches adorn the boundaries of this district and can be seen in the photos below.  The tree-lined and well preserved streets of the Longfellow Neighborhood are also incorporated into this photo gallery of Iowa City's near downtown, more urban neighborhoods.

Longfellow Neighborhood

The Longfellow Neighborhood is one of Iowa City's premier neighborhoods. Located to the SE of downtown Iowa City, this neighborhoods surrounds Longfellow Elementary School and is centered on Summit and Court Streets. Most of the residences in this area were constructed between 1910 and 1940, driven by growth at the University of Iowa and Iowa City. Perhaps this neighborhood's best-known resident is Grant Wood who lived here while a Professor at the University of Iowa.
